The language of flowers, sometimes called floriography, was a Victorian-era means of communication in which various flowers and floral arrangements were used to send coded messages, allowing individuals to express feelings which otherwise could not be spoken. This language was most commonly communicated through Tussie-Mussies, an art which has a following today.
Check out the wikipedia language of flowers, there are some symbolic meanings of some common flowers!
As for the book, maybe :Tussie-Mussies: The Language of Flowers
by Geraldine Adamich Laufer
or
The Language of Flowers: Symbols And Myths by Marina Heilmeyer

or this one sounds interesting: 100 Flowers and How They Got Their Names by Diana Wells

I haven't read them, but try them out, maybe it is something you are looking for...
I hope I helped:)
References :
well you could read a book entitled, "Morphology of the Angiosperms" that book really makes sense and also another recommendation is Plant Anatomy if you want to know about them.
